What Software do you need for that?

Without knowing what “that” is yet, it’s probably pretty safe for me to answer “that depends on which particular piece of software you want to use to do it”.
Yes, the choices in software is seemingly endless at times and often dozens of choices are available, knowing where to start in answering which particular one you should be using can be a daunting task.
Making the task harder I so often wonder if the results I’m getting in searches are really meeting my specific search terms, or are they just paid position advertisements?

Not quite, but there are several sites out there on the internet with great collections of software, nicely categorised for you and often including editorial reviews by the site, and some with much handier user reviews and ratings.
